Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba has signed a new deal at the club, which will keep him there till 2024. Alba’s release clause is a mammoth £428 million, which is close to 500 million euros.
“Barcelona and Jordi Alba have reached an agreement to renew his contract for the next five seasons, until June 30, 2024. The buyout clause is set at €500M,” said a statement from Barcelona. “Over the course of the next few days, we will announce when the official signing of the new contract will be held.”
The Spaniard has been a mainstay in the team since he joined them from Valencia in 2012. He has made 282 appearances for Barcelona, winning 14 trophies in the process. Alba has scored 14 goals as well, but his main input has been the solidity provided on the left flank.
Alba’s role at the club has grown in stature since Neymar’s departure in 2017. Under Ernesto Valverde, Alba has the whole left side to himself, and he has handled it admirably. He is a crucial part of the team and aged 29, he still has good years ahead of him.
“I have never seen myself outside of Barcelona since I have been at Barca it’s my dream,” Alba had said last month. You got your wish, Jordi!
