The 2020 Indian Premier League season is on its way just one and a half months away, and Royal Challengers Bangalore have dropped a new surprise for their fans. Thirteen years after their formation back in 2008, the Bengaluru based franchise have redesigned their logo. RCB unveiled their new logo on their official Twitter handle, and the netizens have generated some hilarious reactions to it.

Early today, RCB tweeted a video where they officially showcased their new logo, with the caption: “THIS IS IT. The moment you’ve been waiting for. New Decade, New RCB, New Logo! #PlayBold”

This is the third logo redesign for RCB since their formation. The earlier logo was inspired from Indian whisky brand Royal Challenge, which is manufactured by United Spirits Limited, the owners of RCB. The new logo retains the ‘Royal Lion’ silhouette from the whisky brand in golden, with ‘Bangalore’ written under it, and ‘Royal Challenge’ is etched below in white over a black background. The club also released a post announcing that all their social media handles along with their official YouTube channel will undergo the logo redesign.

On the launch of their new logo, the RCB Chairman Sanjeev Churiwala said in a recent interview: “The idea behind the design of the new brand identity to give our rampant lion a contemporary makeover. The elements in the logo is a commitment to continuously entertain and engage with fans who are the force behind Royal Challengers Bangalore.”
However, the Twitterati had all kinds of riposte for the club. RCB hasn’t had any luck in clinching the title in any of the 13 IPL seasons, and some followers took advantage of this to take a jibe at the club.

Some joked about RCB frequently not making it to the semis.

Although, many fans were disappointed for using the old ‘Bangalore’ and not the new name ‘Bengaluru’ that is now used to denote the capital of Karnataka.

You are representing state’s capital and the entire state of Karnataka. When Bangalore has become Bengaluru officially, what’s stopping you? Common! This is disappointing 😭

Although later, the club captain Virat Kohli himself came forward with a response. While some of the audience were having pessimistic reactions, the 31 year old showed positivity on the club’s decision.
Kohli tweeted: “LOGO ka kaam hai kehna (its natural for people to react). 😄 Thrilled to see our new @rcbtweets logo. It embodies the Bold pride and challenger spirit that our players bring to the field. Can’t wait for #IPL2020#NewDecadeNewRCB🤩“
