The 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to take place in the UAE from September 19. However, one of their popular franchises, Kolkata Knight Riders have discovered themselves in a difficult scenario after they got to know that the quarantine guidelines in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are different after they arrived in UAE on August 20 for the cash-rich league.

“The first impression we got when IPL was shifted to UAE was that there will be no quarantine there. But it was not so. While Dubai doesn’t have any quarantine rule, we found there was a mandatory 14-day quarantine in Abu Dhabi where we set up our base,” CEO of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Venky Mysore revealed in a webinar on Monday.

“But fortunately we were able to talk to the health ministry there and impress upon them that the BCCI prepared bio-bubble followed by us is good enough preventive measure. We were finally allowed to practice after six days,” he again said.

However, staying in quarantine for a week was not easy that too in an overseas land. And, the team management has come up with different ideas to keep them engaged as well which included quiz and Antakshari (singing) occasion. Even the quiz session covered many points along with cricket.

However, the Antakshari competition turned out to be a hilarious one. “I am glad that their (players) main profession was playing cricket and not singing,” Mysore, who too listened to those singing, shared.

He further added how the youngsters have participated there and mentioned Rinku Singh and Subhman Gill specifically.

“The most daring and adventurous singer was Rinku Singh. He was not only singing but even got into action standing up on his bed with no inhibitions,” Mysore shared. “See in spite of them having all their favourite TV channels, Netflix and all, being indoors always was tough. So this laughter was needed to keep them relaxed.”

The 53-day tournament will be played across three venues in the UAE and conclude on November 10.
