Ever since returning from injury, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has led the inexperienced bowling attack in limited-overs with distinction. The pacer was one of the brightest spots across the T20s and ODIs for Team India. Being a fast bowler with the knack of swinging the ball and the ability to bowl long spells, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was built for the longest format in a way,
Since making his debut in 2013 against Australia in Hyderabad, he has only able been able to rack up 21 appearances with 63 wickets to his name. While he has evolved his game by introducing knuckleballs and yorkers into his arsenal to excel in other formats, injuries and the emergence of the Bumrah-Shami-Ishant trio has kept him out of the test squad.
Following his heroics for the Men In Blue, the Meerut pacer proclaimed his intention to continue battling it out for a place in the test squad.
“Of course, red-ball cricket is on my radar. I will prepare keeping red ball in mind. Although what kind of team will be selected for Test matches is an entirely different scenario,” Bhuvneshwar was quoted as saying in Outlook.
“My workload management and training during IPL will be keeping red ball in mind because I know there’s a lot of Tests ahead and my priority still is Test cricket. So from my end, I will do everything to get ready for the Test series,” he stated.
Bhuvneshwar will now ply his trades for his IPL franchise Sunrise Hyderabad in the coming months. While a possible selection for the World Test Championship seems far fetched, he can very well try and break it into the squad for India's five-match test series against England if he keeps up this form.
He also asserted the importance of workload management to stay away from injuries, which has been an area he has been struggling with.
“I have stopped making long-term plans as in the past when I have done that, things haven’t gone in my favour. Be it because of injury or form.
“But yes, workload management is something I will be seriously monitoring along with team management. So yes, since I was unfit for a long time, I had to ensure that I put a lot of emphasis on being fit,” he added
