Chelsea went through to the round of 16 of the Europa League with a victory against Malmo FF at Stamford Bridge on Thursday. The victory was really needed for Maurizio Sarri’s side as the confidence side were down after two defeats against Manchester City in the Premier League and Manchester United in the FA Cup.
Maurizio Sarri made quite a few changes in the starting lineup of Chelsea. Olivier Giroud was back in the first team in place of Gonzalo Higuain. Callum Hudson-Odoi also got the opportunity to show his talent in this match. Willy Caballero was there under the bars for the Blues as Kepa Arrizabalaga was out of the field with a hamstring injury.
Chelsea were ahead in the tie with a margin of 2-1 in the first leg. The first half went goalless and the supporters were fuming at the display of Maurizio Sarri’s side. However, Olivier Giroud broke the deadlock in the second half of the match. Ross Barkley doubled the lead for the Blues with a brilliant free kick goal. Callum Hudson-Odoi sealed the victory for the Blues with a stunning goal from the right wing. Maurizio Sarri will now surely think about fielding Callum Hudson Odoi in the first team against Manchester City on Sunday.
