Mike Phelan is central to the plans as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plans to take Manchester United to the level they were at so many years. Solskjaer is on course to revamp the United squad this summer, and Phelan will play a huge role in the same.
It is clear that United’s squad is not an optimal one, as numerous stars have affected the wage bill more than the league table. Solskjaer will plan to move away from such marquee signings and move closer to targetting the academy players. Phelan will stay beyond the summer to assist him in that, Manchester Evening News reported.
United need replacements in defence and attack, and they have been linked with numerous names. Jadon Sancho is one key man, as the youngster has enjoyed his time in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund. The likes of Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez and West Ham’s Declan Rice are also linked, as Solskjaer will look to strengthen the midfield. Ander Herrera is the man to be replaced, as the Spaniard looks set to leave the club this summer.
Players like Alexis Sanchez, Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian could leave, which could pave the way for arrivals. One thing is for sure, Phelan will be there to oversee the proceedings.
