Shooting: Anjum Moudgil breaks world record in 10m air rifle finals at Masters Meet

Anjum Moudgil, who hails from Punjab, broke the finals world record for the women’s 10m Air Rifle to win gold on day one at the XII Sardar Sajjan Singh Sethi Memorial Masters shooting competition in New Delhi on Monday.

Currently ranked 8th in the world, Moudgil shot above her weight to record a final score of 253.9 in the finals. It saw her clinch the gold medal by a full point ahead world No 1 Apurvi Chandela’s previously held record.

Moudgil, who is the current World Championship silver medallist was the first to secure a berth to Tokyo for the 2020 Olympics. The difference between Anjum and second placed Mehuli Ghosh’s score was a whooping 1.7 points.

Despite finishing second, Mehuli Ghosh missed Chandela’s previously held world record by just 0.7 mark.

Manwhile, Elavenil Valarivan won silver in junior section with a score of 252.4. India regular Ravi Kumar of the Air Force won the men’s 10m Air Rifle event.
